Getting to Know Vintage Indie (tm).

Vintage Indie Magazine is your online source for living a Modern Life with a Vintage Perspective (tm). Following is my interview with the creator of Vintage Indie(tm), Gabreial Wyatt.

Who is behind Vintage Indie (tm)?

Just me, Gabreial Wyatt. I've also picked up four fabulous guest contributors who write a couple of times a month. They include, Jerusalem Greer, Elizabeth Holcombe, Gina Smith and Elizabeth Young.

What are the reasons Vintage Indie was created?

Before I started Vintage Indie, I started by own bath, body and spa company from the ground up. After the initial passion of product, label and brand creation, I started loosing interest and wanted to focus more on my writing. So I sold that business and have been writing Vintage Indie for close to three years.

What types of products and articles do you feature on Vintage Indie (tm)?

My main topic of interest surrounds vintage. Depending on what your own personal definition of vintage is, you are sure to find something you like. I love the blend of modern and vintage which is why my tag line is Modern Life, Vintage Perspective. You'll find useful do-it-yourself crafts and projects, handmade goods, independent small business, vintage inspirations, antiques, fashion, book reviews, home and store tours, green living articles and much more.

Name several indie artists who you think deserve more exposure.vintageindie2_250

Honestly, this is a very tough question. Every independent artist or business who is feature in Vintage Indie, is feature because they've showed their passion through their work and customer service. These two things seem to have disappeared from the big box stores. Ultimately I couldn't narrow it down to just a handful.

Who is the target audience for Vintage Indie?

Vintage Indie's target audience is mostly women. Women who have no qualms with scouring vintage and antique shop for hours without thinking twice about it. Moms, wives, crafters, community members, small business supporters and eco-minded people. Those who admire something created from the heart.

How do you define vintage as it relates to Vintage Indie?

Vintage is to me any anything that renders that feeling of nostalgia in today's fast paced society, all while supporting the independent business owner.

Tell me a little about your blog, Indie Wedding Guide, and where we can find it.

The Indie Wedding Guide is in it's second season of celebrating Indie Weddings Month (March). The Indie Wedding Guide & Directory is the go to resource for brides looking to minimize waste and create their wedding with the idea of using indie designers, a do it yourself attitude and those famous three R's: reduce, reuse and recycle. During the month-long celebration each year, myself and guest contributors bring fresh ideas to the forefront for that year.

During the off season, every other month accept for March the guide turns into a juried directory for those planning a wedding and looking for handmade, custom, independent small business companies and services.

What types of features can readers expect to find on Indie Wedding Guide?

* Independent & Small Business Vendors
* Vintage Alternatives
* Real Life Wedding Tales
* Eco-Friendly Alternatives

Do you accept artisan submissions from shops to have their products featured on your blogs?

Absolutely, and I encourage them. If you feel your style fits with Vintage Indie, please don't hesitate to email with examples of your product photography, and a link to where we can find your shop or store.

Why do you believe it's important to buy handmade?

Buying handmade couldn't be any more important than it is today. We have to hold on to that sense of self sufficiency and take pride in the products that the handmade community provides. It's important to buy handmade and support those who pour their hearts into what they do. Big Box stores don't offer quality in the clothing and products that are made today. The craftsmanship that you find with a handmade product is often incomparable and the items last longer because the people making them care.

What's your favorite vintage piece that you own?

This is hard to narrow down for me. I have a gorgeous vintage tablecloth  that I cherish, I'm also a big fan of Pyrex and building my collection.

Are you a crafty girl yourself? What do you make?

If you call cooking crafty. I have a passion for food, natural and wholesome ingredients.

What's one thing most people don't know about you?

I've always wanted to own my own 50's style diner, and have plans to do so someday.

Anything else you'd like to add?

Thanks so much for the wonderful interview!
